When squirrels cross the road

When squirrels cross the road
with cars in a traffic mode,
they’re hunting for nuts & acorns
within near trees where were born,
and stack 'em in the earthy Grote.

The weather swing forebode,
all hurdles in rush overrode
in front of your car occurred….
when squirrels cross the road.

The beauty of nature – bestowed,
we’re taking for granted, no words…
it’s hopelessly late, when we mourn...
so drivers know and are warned,
when squirrels cross the road.

    1. Thanks, Bjorn. Your poem inspired me, and trying a new form - like stretching muscles.

  2. This is a lovely poem - and the image gave me a chuckle. Do red squirrels really drive slowly?

On the downside - you seem to be a line short of a rondeau; there should be another line in your final stanza.

Your use of rhymes and near rhymes is very clever - and helped to get you out of a corner I should think ... smiles

  6. I have never seen a red squirrel - I live in the wrong part of the UK! A lovely warning to be careful, all wrapped up in a rondeau form. Brava!

  9. One from the coast to the prairie a squirrel could go from tree to tree and never touch the ground. They bury many more acorns than they use, so they are responsible for the forest.. if we carve out enough highways to run over them we destroy the forest...

  11. And I bet the red squirrels do drive slowly! Sorry for the grammarly joke on such a serious subject. We are all squirrels, and I think your images show that.

  12. Love those little squirrels - although rarely see them in the fur. We must take care of our planet and all that live upon it.

  15. Fairy tale mode and good rhymes! There should be signs for a lot of rare species.
