To wage

Fire Escape Universal Studious Instagram NYC by sessepien

“Apartment to_let”
the nightmare
to stick there
for so long…

I haven’t survived
the winter of life
with 5 corners,
atoning for sins,
failed…

Later
my mind/heart
 judged
at court
all my tricks

reframed…
found the virus
of guilt,
promoted a support
24/7
to stay brave/safe.

…the others’ life party
rolled by on bicycles
from Sullivan
hmmm…
also hosted dinners…

  1. ha. there is an intriguing irony in that last stanza...ha.
guilt as a virus is so true as well...and so often used
    to nefarious ends.

  2. I like that you reference both signs in the picture. The idea of guilt as a virus resonates.

  3. Great observations. The "for rent" sign that has rusted around the edges having stayed "for so long" is excellent. Thank you.

  5. Guilt sure can weave its way into us and not want to let go

  6. nice how you tied the two signs together.

  7. I love the rhythm of this. The picture of loose ideas that dance through the mind. Almost like a list that can be sung.

  11. Oh that virus of guilt, I'd like it to ride away on that Sullivan!

  12. I apologize if this ends up being a double-posting. I was halfway through a post and it disappeared...I was just writing that your poem is great and that I really like how you've managed to weave 3 prompts seamlessly. I thought the picture was the perfect finishing touch (I realize it's probably part of one of the prompts but I'm not sure)...in any case, I really like what you've done here and am glad I came to read.

  14. Who is sinless? I suppose we all fail there. And hosted dinners that habit to support each other when first married that showedwe were our own independent couples in our own tatty homes or apartments that in reality we were so glad to escape from. I remember it well!

  15. What a delightful skip and trip around the block..I think we are all 'infected' and imperfect in someway or another..thank heavens for that!

  16. That the other lives roll along... I suppose we all make that observation at one time or another.

    1. Very hard condition makes someone to look for 5th corner...~ an expression. Nice to see you again. Thanks.

  18. That fifth corner...like a sixth sense? I haven't heard of it either. Though I imagined
being stuck in an odd angled room in that apartment for just a tad too long.

I used to rent a bike for a dollar and hour in the city in the 1960's - lots of odd angles to travel...hopefully though we can see guilt for what it is - a tool that others use and we can toss for its uselessness.

Just getting out today (before the next snow storm that is due) I heard bird singing. Could have been robins. But is usually some feathered friend at the bird feeder.

    Thanks for your visit ~Jules

  19. Guilt can a virus, one should quickly let go of it. Excellent work with the words, Humbird.

  23. Viral guilt, I think many of us have felt that before...this was cleverly written!

  25. thoughtful play with words so to speak... words out loud on paper and then obtw what's happening outside the window... a distraction.... flows so well only pausing when required... oh stop here...stop, think...
