Addiction

This yearning…
to feel something else,
something other,
than what we are
made of
for life time
at Earth.

Distraction
Sensation
Addiction
to changes,
a new excrement of
excitement
to death…

Illusion
Protection
from pain,
and knowing
all others
about dysfunction
dwelled on...

The breakage,
the blockages
in the cells,
the mask,
the failure
to reach
for help…

  10. Wow - That first stanza really brings addition into view..the yearning to feel something else. The rhythm of the poem intensifies the message. I wish more people would reach out for the needed help.

  11. There are so many addictions...mine was and is sugar...just as poisonous as any drug...and it served as

    'Illusion
    Protection
    from pain,
    and knowing
    all others'

You nailed the feelings perfectly here....made me quite emotional all over again as I face my addiction daily.

  12. The yearning to feel something other is def at the core of addictions. If we can ask for help, fill the vacuum within, healing is possible. Like Donna, my addiction is to sugar. Luckily, a sugar death is less destructive than one from alcohol and drugs. But there is always something lethal to the numbing from substances.

  13. The sadness of addiction is that some are acceptable and others not. It is as though it OK for someone to make a legal profit from in your craving for tobacco but you are guilty of a punishable offence if you need to escape from yourself by other means. We are a strange race.
