This yearning…
to feel something else,
something other,
than what we are
made of
for life time
at Earth.
Distraction
Sensation
Addiction
to changes,
a new excrement of
excitement
to death…
Illusion
Protection
from pain,
and knowing
all others
about dysfunction
dwelled on...
The breakage,
the blockages
in the cells,
the mask,
the failure
to reach
for help…

ReplyDeletePause. Observe. What are the triggers? ...Thank you.
DeleteMine was to try and fill the place within me that could not be filled. The hole left by the tearing out of parts. It only numbs it a bit and eventually you need more to numb, because you build tolerance and ---

ReplyDeleteWow - That first stanza really brings addition into view..the yearning to feel something else. The rhythm of the poem intensifies the message. I wish more people would reach out for the needed help.

You nailed the feelings perfectly here....made me quite emotional all over again as I face my addiction daily.

The yearning to feel something other is def at the core of addictions. If we can ask for help, fill the vacuum within, healing is possible. Like Donna, my addiction is to sugar. Luckily, a sugar death is less destructive than one from alcohol and drugs. But there is always something lethal to the numbing from substances.
ReplyDeleteThe sadness of addiction is that some are acceptable and others not. It is as though it OK for someone to make a legal profit from in your craving for tobacco but you are guilty of a punishable offence if you need to escape from yourself by other means. We are a strange race.
ReplyDeleteTo feel something other than what we are made of on Earth.. that's very nicely put.
ReplyDeleteThe failure to reach for help - a powerful line which really resonated..so good to read your work again humbird..you always have something truly insightful to say in your own unique and brilliant style
ReplyDeleteI appreciate each and every word...
ReplyDeleteYou have captured addiction here. Well expressed.
ReplyDeleteFailing to ask for help isn't always our fault, bit it can feel that way.
ReplyDeleteThe hardest thing has to ask for help... always laced with shame I assume.
ReplyDeleteYou painted the struggle perfectly in a few words ... the last stanza truly creates a deep impact.
ReplyDeleteThe line breaks seem to signify an actual plea of an addict - pause, stop, continue
