'Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech
you will ever regret' ~ Ambrose Bierce. Surreal cup ~ pinterest
One step aside
when passed
transition
bridge - ..
to fall
in cool, uneasy waters
to swim in stream;
for others – to look as
in no need for help
while paddling as a hell
to reach the borders…
what next on that
unpleasant roads,
not comfy unexplored
ways,
no trails,
not even steps,
but cup has filled
with a risky ambrose…

Those roads and step taken must be taken to get the hell out of there sooner.
ReplyDeletenot early then going through...
DeleteThat one step.. Enjoyed.

DeleteOh yes I have followed this one step., that 'risky ambrose'..now I count to 10 and think before I take that step.

Nice to hear!
DeleteI was out skating on the ice today.. I do not want to think about falling through...:-) but that was what I thought of.
ReplyDeleteGood for you! :)
DeleteWe never know what is next on those unpleasant roads...we can hope though that we will be able to pass safely.

Deletebut cup has filled
ReplyDeletewith a risky ambrose…
Brilliant close!!
I wish the ambrose of risk taking would reach me more. I tend to play it safe. I must risk a little more and learn to swim.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this Humbird.
you know, Myrna, sometimes, we need change just a little, something in routine, in priorities, - to see real change on our path. Thanks
DeleteAll it takes is that step and may God be with us when we come upon the unexplored. loved it!
ReplyDeleteThank you, James!
DeleteI know that feeling of paddling like hell, while looking like I don't need help only too well.
ReplyDelete:) Thank you, Sherry!
DeleteThose unpleasant roads can be filled with bumps..might need to wear a helmet.

and for you, Gillena, Love!
Deleterisky ambrose... love that line.
ReplyDelete"risky ambrose"---great phrasing.....sometimes I think I'd quite like to have a nice, big cup of some of that after a lifetime of playing it safe ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove the way you build this poem on "one step". Very cool!
ReplyDeletemuch courage is needed to take that one step...reward is in taking it.. "risky ambrose"...
ReplyDeleteI too love the phrase risky ambrose and that notion of looking 'ok' on the outside and paddling furiously within..i suppose by degrees that is the nature of being human - the quote is memorable too
ReplyDeleteLooking composed and not wanting to show one is in distress may be useful to avoid exploitation

I'm well acquainted with those unpleasant roads of which you write!
ReplyDeleteThe poem is terrific in it sown right – and I also love the allusion to that wonderful Bierce short story, and how you wove it into your own message.
