Chilly, even birds
hiding in a pine tree needle clutch
cheeping shyly
echoing between newborn
white bloomed bushes
happy school kids' noise
snow returns...
soft as a baby kiss
showering my path
memory of falls
snow balls, the flakes & letters
gusty wind brought back
coughing, - the Santa -
I've recognized him-
tired man
clearing snowy gifts
no robe, swaying old-man's walk
at his back yard
shoveling...
the sorrow
bright & timeless
a new-year hope

Snow has a way of coming back... there is a certain weight or lightness depending if your're old or young.
ReplyDeleteSeems we were both thinking of winter and its return....some nice images and memories! wishing you a new year of hope!

Great imagery. Loved the poem.
ReplyDeleteAlways comes back around revealing footsteps on the past, dumb snow lol
ReplyDeleteWonderful thoughts indeed, warm greetings!
ReplyDeleteYes, Santa definitely must be tired this time of year. He needs to rest up.....for next year!
ReplyDelete"the sorrow bright and timeless"....this is a unique aspect of Santa, once the costume is put away and he's shoveling away the last of winter. Very cool.
ReplyDeleteSounds like Santa may be a bit tired..the excitement is over and now he is back to the normal tasks of life like shoveling :)
ReplyDeleteI love the memories that come with the returns, the cycles of seasons--as long as they are challenges well met and now soft as a kiss. I hope to see them as gifts even when I am that old.
ReplyDeleteBeautifully expressed!!
ReplyDeletelovely images here, i've experienced snow only on a vacation, it was awesome and delightful, knowing that i would be on a plane heading back to hot sunny days, yet i know that snow can be weighty and depressing some times
ReplyDeletegood Sunday to you
much love...
Interesting view of Santa. Makes me think it is the magic of giving that gives him the energy to do all his work. The first stanza is outstanding. Love the image of the birds.

Beautiful imagery and rhythm in this poem humbird - i love the swing between the children's noses and the sad santa..life is full of light and dark particularly as we get older...hopefully more light than dark though xo
